Construction has been in the Eckman family for over 100 years. Edward Eckman started as a general contractor in the 1920s.

Edward Eckman started as a general contractor in the 1920s. Although Edward had a passion for construction, he also loved to garden and spend time with his grandchildren. In 1938, Edward’s son Harvey founded Harvey W. Eckman Construction. The company constructed service stations for all the major oil companies in most Western states. Harvey’s philosophy was placing the client’s needs first and providing the highest level of integrity. Harvey knew that quality was key to success. Through hard work and dedication, the company grew and expanded into other sectors of construction.  In 1938, Edward’s son Harvey founded Harvey W. Harvey W. Eckman & Sons – 1950s

Harvey passed his love of construction and his philosophy on to his son, Gary L. Eckman. Gary grew up going to job sites and started working in the field at a young age. By the age of 25, he worked as a superintendent for Harvey W. Eckman & Midgley Construction – 1967

Around 1967, Gary partnered with Jay Midgley and purchased the company from his father. This was the beginning of industrial construction. Eckman & Midgely built the first “tilt-up” concrete construction building in the Salt Lake Valley. Gary and Jay were the pioneers for concrete tilt-ups and influenced developers to use this unique building method to save time and money on their projects. Some memorable projects during this time included Price Savers, K-Mart, Sears, Allied Development, and Ballard Medical.  Around 1967, Gary partnered with Jay Midgley

Eckman & Mitchell Construction – 1980s

Around 1985, Gary partnered with Tommy Mitchell and changed the name to Eckman & Mitchell Construction. Tommy started on the concrete crew as a laborer and worked his way up through the company to work alongside Gary. Eckman Construction – 2017

Eventually, Gary acquired the company from Tommy and started what we know today as Eckman Construction. Gary remains the CEO/Owner of the company today. Eckman Construction is still at the forefront of tilt-up concrete construction and has an expanded portfolio of tenant improvement, retail, office, commercial and institutional projects as well.  Eventually, Gary acquired the company from Tommy and started what we know today as Eckman Construction. n 1938, Edward’s son Harvey founded Harvey W. Gary is passing the Eckman legacy on to his son Cooper Eckman, like Edward did to Harvey and Harvey to Gary. Generations of quality, service and integrity are ingrained in the Eckman DNA.
